Resumen

BENAVIDES ROSERO, Angela María  y  MEJIA FRANCO, Natalia. Factors that hinder sustainable urban management: Study of a municipality in Colombia. Estud. demogr. urbanos [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.1, pp.157-199.  Epub 02-Mayo-2022. ISSN 2448-6515.  https://doi.org/10.24201/edu.v37i1.2012.

Sustainable urban management must be addressed in planning exercises carried out on the territories. This article is part of the development of an investigation that was formulated with the objective of determining the obstacles that hinder the process of sustainable urban management in a Colombian territory: El Tambo, Nariño. For this, a documentary analysis is made from the institutionality, from the physical space through cartography and a collection of information on site from the implementation of social cartography. It is identified that the main factors that hinder urban management are related from three dimensions: physical-spatial, territorial and social. It is concluded that the municipality presents difficulties in the planning and ordering of its territory related to inadequate urban practices, with deficiencies in control, regulatory gaps, rapid urban growth and a late administrative reaction, as well as a predominance of private interests over the collectives. All this makes territorial management, with a perspective of sustainable development, difficult.
