Resumen

BLANCAS-ARROYO, Guillermo Artemio et al. The effect of salinity on the survival during the transport and culture of wild fish of the genus Chirostoma. Hidrobiológica [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.3, pp.223-230. ISSN 0188-8897.

The effect of the salinity was verified on survival of wild fish of genus Chirostoma, during transportation and acclimatization. These organisms are endemic in Mexico and they are known as "silverside fish and shortfin charales"; which have been characterized by their hypersensitivity to the management and their high degree of stress. The biological models were two species of charales: Xochimilco's Chirostoma jordani basin of Mexico and C. chapalae of Querendaro Cuitzeo Michoacan's subbasin. 120 fish were transported in salinities of 0, 5 and 10 psu to Mexico City, as a result of four catches. The mortality due to the transport was evaluated for their setting and acclimatization recirculation systems were used closed to these salinities, fish were fed with live feed. The results indicated that during their transport, the likelihood that the fish survive to salinities of 0 psu ranged from 5 to 31%, while at salinities of 5 and 10 psu were between 95 and 100%. During the setting the highest survival was obtained at 5 psu. It is concluded that this species should be transported in 10 psu and acclimatization by themselves should be at 5 psu salinity.
