In this article an analysis of the H-2A and H-2B visas for low-qualified temporary workers in the United States is made; their differences from those of qualified workers, as well as the ways in which they have been applied in different periods. Firstly, the programs of temporary workers in this country and the legislation related to the non-migrant workers are described. Later, the H-2 programs, their main characteristics, the economic branches where they are used, number of participants and their country of origin are analyzed, including the states they head to. The article concludes with an evaluation of their benefits and limits, paying special attention to the experience of Mexican workers.
