GALLEGO MONTES, Gabriel y VILLEGAS ARENAS, Guillermo. Marital status as determining the one-person households growth in Colombia. Pap. poblac [online]. 2015, vol.21, n.86, pp.219-251. ISSN 2448-7147.
One-person households are a postwar socio-demographic phenomenon constantly growing in all societies, nevertheless the knowledge around this form of residence is insufficient and the factors associated with growth have been little explored. Using data from the censuses of 1993 and 2005 for Colombia, intercensal rates of single-person households were estimated by departments and single ages and variables singleness, widowhood, divorce/separation, with this data set correlations and a measure of sensitivity were estimated. The divorce/separation and widowhood have the highest correlation and sensitivity to the variability of single-person households in Colombia, becoming predictors for study. Found for Colombia opposes the socio-demographic tradition that attributes the growth of one-person households the increase in unmarried -the individualism-, this situation invites to rethink the assumptions which they have theorized and studied this type of household, especially for Latin America.
