LOZANO-ASCENCIO, Fernando y RAMIREZ-GARCIA, Telésforo. Indigenous households and remittances in Mexico: changes in the decade 2000-2010. Pap. poblac [online]. 2019, vol.25, n.102, pp.155-188. Epub 25-Nov-2020. ISSN 2448-7147. https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2019.102.35.
This article presents an analysis of indigenous households receiving remittances in Mexico. On the one hand, it realizes the volume, territorial distribution and sociodemographic characteristics of indigenous households receiving remittances. And on the other, the contribution that monetary remittances received by indigenous households have in the Mexican economy is highlighted. The sources of information used were the Population and Housing Censuses of 2000 and 2010, the National Survey of Household Income and Expenditure (ENIGH) and statistics on family remittances reported by the Bank of Mexico (Banxico). In general terms, the results show an increase of the international migration of the indigenous population and of the number of households that received remittances at the national level, in compared to households with non-indigenous population.
