This article focuses on the guarantees of protection of thefundamental right to water in Mexico. It starts up in the multilevel of the fundamen tal rights guaran tees considering a first key subdivision between the institutional guarantees and the social guarantees. Immediately are exposed ways that can be used by persons and communities to defend their right of access to water, with the purpose of obtaintng a mintmum and indispensable quantity and to satisfy the daily needs of personal and domestic consumption. The article exposes the complexity of the defense of this right and opens a debate around the necessary participation of the affected actors.
