VIU ADAGIO, Julieta. Rhetorics of the Distinction in the Latin American Chronicle. Latinoamérica [online]. 2020, n.70, pp.11-37.  Epub 07-Oct-2020. ISSN 2448-6914.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2020.70.57166.

This article aims to draw a map of the modern Latin American chronicle and illuminate a series of artistic and cultural milestones that marked its history. With the aim of identifying and periodizing the hegemonic interests of writers in relation to the cultural field and the general theoretical readings of art and literature. These analyzes allowed us to identify the rise of the modernist divism characterized, among other issues, by the claim of the aristocracy of art; the celebrity based on a rhetoric of fame; and in opposition to these the emergence of the plebeyez that locates popular characters in the center of the representation. The originality of this work lies in the reading of the field of the chronicle whose tradition of studies in general has advanced by authors appreciated individually. Of equal importance in the originality of this paper is the identification of the topics described, disregarded by the field of criticism.

Palabras llave : Latin American Chronicle; Modernism; The Famous; The Plebeian.
