Resumen

TORRES, Fernanda Valeria. Territory and Urban Social Movements: South American Debates. Latinoamérica [online]. 2023, n.77, pp.213-239.  Epub 19-Abr-2024. ISSN 2448-6914.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2023.77.57547.

The aim of this article is to expose, from the analysis of part of the South American bibliography referring to studies on urban social movements and collective action, the definitions and uses of the concept territory. Through a qualitative analysis, guided by the notions of “constant comparison” and “theoretical saturation”, two dimensions of analysis were constructed to order and hierarchize the bibliography consulted: the types of uses of the concept of territory and the theoretical influences. An ordering typology is proposed and it is concluded the need to assume an analytical commitment with the spatial problematic as a fundamental perspective to understand that, sometimes, the territory fulfills an ontological function, constitutive of collective subjects and political subjects. Finally, it highlights the specificity that the concept of socio-territorial movement can bring to analyze certain experiences of urban mobilization and organization.
