The purpose of this article is to analyze the relevance of the Central American Isthmus in Mexico’s foreign policy in the 21st century, after the promotion of programs and projects aimed at reversing the structural conditions that have led to the prevalence of a high level of inequality among its population and, as a consequence, to the generation of forced migration. To this end, a brief context of the region is considered in order to understand the historical process of the political, economic and social conditions that converge in these countries.
