MARRONI, María da Gloria y ALONSO MENESES, Guillermo. El fin del sueño americano: Mujeres migrantes muertas en la frontera México-Estados Unidos. Migr. Inter [online]. 2006, vol.3, n.3, pp.05-30. ISSN 2594-0279.
This essay portrays a migratory scenario made of migrant deaths during the underground crossing, particularly focussing on women. After some historical and theoretical backgrounds and proposing some cuantitative coordinates, the research focuses on a case study: the disappearing of a woman from a community of the Puebla state, the roll of the Coyote (smuggler) and the family and neighbors reaction. The different analysis and interpretations are used for a reading of the migrant deaths that contextualize the annual death rate. For that matter the case is enter upon a polyphonic reconstruction with a cualitative strategy of the social speech, related to the facts and versions over the disappearing of a woman in the Arizona desert while trying to reach New York City. Therefore, migrant women are not only the most vulnerable on the border crossing scenario, but of the whole process, including that dimension of the migratoty reality that is articulated between the colective memory and the community imaginary.
