Resumen

RUEDA CHAVES, John E.. The segmental level and morphophonological processes in the Mixtec of San Jerónimo de Xayacatlán. Cuad. Lingüíst. Col. Méx. [online]. 2023, vol.10, e216.  Epub 22-Mar-2024. ISSN 2007-736X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/clecm.v10i00.216.

This paper provides a description of the morphophonological processes of the segmental level in the Mixtec of San Jerónimo de Xayacatlán. Consonantal and vowel alternations in verbs are approached from a diachronic and synchronic perspective to explain how fossilization and minimality accounts for allomorphy. Realizational morphology explains how mood-aspect and person features are manifested as phonological alterations in minimal word boundary. The refined dual-route approach determines computation and solves analytic underdetermination problems that persist in descriptions. The minimal word is proposed as a morphophonological entity and domain. The conclusions of this work are intended to establish a tradition of studies on the morphophonology regarding this dialect, as well as all the other Mixtec languages.
