Resumen

SACRISTAN-DE ALVA, Manuel  y  LUNA-PABELLO, Víctor M.. Determination of protein and nutraceuticals content in the Paramecium aurelia biomass. Ecosistemas y recur. agropecuarios [online]. 2017, vol.4, n.10, pp.89-96. ISSN 2007-901X.  https://doi.org/10.19136/era.a4n10.678.

This investigation focused on determining the protein and nutraceutical content in the free-living ciliated Paramecium aurelia, which was isolated from a wild source for further identification. Axenic cultures of P. aurelia were performed in an automated bioreactor with pH control at 7.0, 28 °C, dissolved oxygen greater than 2 mg/l and stirring at 70 rpm for 72 h. The culture medium was composed of 700 mL of lettuce and wheat infusion, diluted with 1 L of distilled water and an inoculum of 300 mL with 3 x 103 cells mL-1. From the cultures 74.1 mg L-1 of dry biomass were obtained, containing 48.6 % proteins and 37.6 % lipids, formed mainly by fatty acids: oleic (20.8 %), linoleic (11.1 %), gamma-linolenic (3.6 %) and arachidonic (6.0 %). The vitamins present were: A (retinol, 81.27 µg g-1), E (tocopherol, 28.73 mg g-1) and D3 (cholecalciferol, 4.49 mg g-1). The biomass of P. aurelia could represent an important source of protein and nutraceuticals.
