PEREZ-DIAZ, José Pedro et al. Concentration of nitrate, phosphate, boron and chloride in the Lerma River. Ecosistemas y recur. agropecuarios [online]. 2019, vol.6, n.16, pp.175-182. Epub 01-Oct-2019. ISSN 2007-901X. https://doi.org/10.19136/era.a6n16.1829.
The Lerma River originates in the Almoloya Lagoon, State of Mexico and empties into Lake Chapala, Jalisco. The objective of this study was to determine the concentration of nitrate (NO3-), phosphate (PO4 3-), boron (B3+) and chloride (Cl-) in the Lerma River to estimate the risk of toxicity of some crops irrigated with its waters. The average concentration was 27.48 mg L-1 for NO3-, 4.027 mg L-1 for PO4 3-, 0.496 mg L-1 for B3+ and 1.974 meq L-1 for Cl-. The coefficient of variation indicates high heterogeneity in the ionic concentration of the water, attributed to discharges of domestic, industrial and agricultural drainage wastewater. The Lerma River has a different degree of restriction of use with respect to the risk of specific ion toxicity.
