Endoscopy has evolved vertiginously as a diagnostic and therapeutic method of minimal invasion, which has generated an increase in the number of cases attended, leading to a reduction in time for cleaning and disinfection, which finally leads to an increase in the risk of colonization and/or infection derived from the use of this type of biomedical equipment. Endoscopes have been associated with outbreaks of healthcare-associated infections due to the contamination of these types of devices, despite being subjected to high-level cleaning and disinfection processes. Failure to clean, disinfect and dry the endoscope increases the risk of transmission of any pathogenic microorganism that is in contact with the structure of these devices.
