Resumen
VELASCO SANTOS, Paola. Unravelling Denim Enthographically: Materiality and paradoxical socio-environmental meshworks. Alteridades [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.54, pp.95-106. ISSN 2448-850X.
This article combines the anthropology of commodities with the re-materialization of anthropological thought to examine the role played by denim jeans in the reconfiguration of social, economic and environmental processes in a small town in Tlaxcala, Mexico. The aim is to unravel the social and environmental meshwork woven by the local production of jeans and show how this dynamic and its material implications has profoundly permeated the townspeople lives. The jeans, together with the subjects that manipulate and transform them, as well as other objects and nonhuman subjects, all have co-produced an uncertain, uneven and alienating arena that is also a reflection of neoliberalism.
