Resumen

RIVERA JIMENEZ, Hernando Javier; SUAREZ PADRON, Isidro Elias  y  PALACIO MEJIA, Juan Diego. Analysis of the genetic diversity of 'caña flecha' Gynerium sagittatum Aubl. using the AFLP technique. Agric. Téc. Méx [online]. 2009, vol.35, n.1, pp.81-87. ISSN 0568-2517.

The fiber wild cane Gynerium sagittatum (Aubl.) is used as raw material for the elaboration of crafts (Zorro y Prieto, 1999), among them the hat "vueltiao", symbol of Colombian cultural identity. The objective of this study was the characterization molecular of 25 accessions of G. sagittatum (Aubl.) by means of AFLP to determine the distribution of the genetic variation among populations from different regions in Colombia considering geographic and morphological criteria. The analyses of multiple correspondences discriminated three groups, where desirable characteristics of artisan importance (commercial) and agronomic attributes for the elaboration of crafts are identified. A low correlation was observed between the geographic distance and the level of genetic differentiation of the species, which indicated a flow of the same material by its character of asexual reproduction to the different regions in the country, as a consequence of the transfer of valuable material by entropic action.

Palabras llave : Gynerium sagittatum (Aubl.); genetic resources; clustering pattern; evaluation.
