Resumen

ORDONEZ-CANDELARIA, Víctor Rubén  y  BARCENAS-PAZOS, Guadalupe Martha. Physical and mechanical properties of three Mexican guaduas (Guadua aculeata, Guadua amplexifolia and Guadua velutina). Madera bosques [online]. 2014, vol.20, n.2, pp.111-125. ISSN 2448-7597.

A test program on some physical and mechanical properties of three out of the five Guadua species growing in Mexico was carried out to promote their use in construction taking advantage of their structural behavior. Those species were Guadua amplexifolia, Guadua velutina and Guadua aculeata, which are traditionally well known to have characteristics for vernacular housing. Samples were collected in Veracruz and Tabasco states. Values obtained for G. velutina and G. amplexifolia basic relative density (ow/gv) range from 0,393 to 0,399 for the lowest part of culms, and from 0,506 to 0,514 for the top. G. aculeata showed values slightly higher, 0,429 in the base, 0,653 for top of culms. Values of bending strength (MOR), in green condition, were, generally, lower for base specimens and higher for top specimens. Bending strength values for unseasoned bamboo for G. velutina ranged from 7,5 MPa to 88,3 MPa; while G. amplexifolia were from 77,0 MPa to 102,1 MPa; and for G. aculeata, varied from 59,7 MPa to 89,2 MPa.

Palabras llave : bamboo; compression; shear; bending; modulus of elasticity; modulus of rupture.
