The aim of this research is to study initial stages of postdischarge nitriding, nucleation and growth of nitrides developed in iron (ARMCO) samples. Iron samples were nitrided for short periods to develop an incipient structure. Products obtained from the nitriding were examined by optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction.
