In this work we present the synthesis of SiO2 sol-gel hybrid materials doped with azo-dye methyl red, liquid crystal 4'-n-pentyl-4-cyanobiphenyl and surfactant Triton X-100. The composite materials were used to prepare silica films into the sandwich glass-cell. Nonlinear refraction index changes on these films were studied with the Z-scan technique. The ability of these films to act as a nonlinear phase contrast filter is demonstrated experimentally.
