Nanotechnology development has opened new opportunities for the transformation of production processes. It is well known that the main challenge of human kind is the design new productive processes that should be environment friendly and energetically efficient. Doubtless, nanotechnology will contribute to reach these goals. Nevertheless, the human activities are still polluting the environment, increasing the risk for several ecosystems and the public health. There is the urgent need to reduce and stop the environmental damage and to clean up the polluted sites as well. Nanotechnology could and should be applied for this important task.
