The United Nations and other international institutions approved the System of National Accounts of 2008 (2008 SNA) that same year and was published in English in 2009. The 2008 SNA is not yet in force in Spanish-speaking countries due to the fact that there is no complete an approved Spanish translation of the publication. However, there are countries, such as Mexico, that have given important steps in its implementation. The 2008 SNA should replace the System of Accounts of 1993. In this paper we present a set of novel features that improve the description of macroeconomics, the analysis at this level of aggregation, and the implementation of macroeconomic policies. Also included is the effect that the changes have been considered so far in the System of National Accounts of Mexico.
