Resumen
ALVARADO LAGUNAS, Elías y DUANA AVILA, Danae. Savings, retirement and pensions: What do young teenagers think of saving for retirement?. Investig. adm. [online]. 2018, vol.47, n.122. ISSN 2448-7678.
The aim of the article is to find out what young people think about retirement savings and identify the determining factors that influence their decision to save. The method used was a discrete binary choice model. The results show that young people (between 14 and 21 years old) have not thought about their retirement, let alone saving for the future. One relevant finding of the study is that the reasons for saving by gender are different, as men save part of their money to spend in the short term, especially when they have a dating relationship, as opposed to women who do so to buy some durable good that will be useful for the long term. The main limitation resides in the fact that is cross-sectional data, no causal inferences can be made.
