GONZALEZ MUNOZ, Elvia Luz. Ergonomics and Graphic Design. Creation of Warning Visual Signs. Zincografía [online]. 2017, vol.1, n.2, pp.5-18. Epub 07-Oct-2020. ISSN 2448-8437. https://doi.org/10.32870/zcr.v0i2.28.
The paper presents a theoretical review on the ergonometric contributions to the design of warning signs, considering the cognitive processes and the information processing made by the subject. It points out which are the most relevant elements to understand whether the signs are effective, establishing criteria for the design evaluation.
A theoretical model, coming from cognitive ergonomics, which has laid out the foundations several researches on the effectiveness of the warning signs. The Theory of Processing of Human Information/Communication (C-HIP), has been developing since the 90’s and is, right now, the basis of the main researches on the risk analysis area for several scenario of development and has been exhaustively used for the design of warnings in different arenas, such as traffic safety and massive use products.
Likewise, here are linked some results of the researches carried on by different authors, which have seek to improve the elements which compose the warning signs and, therefore, to augment the comprehension of the information and the fulfillment of the indications. The paper has as a purpose to help to understand the link between cognitive ergonomics and the practice of graphic design.
