VILLA LEVER, Lorenza. No future without dreams; The aspirations of indigenous university students. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2022, vol.84, n.4, pp.941-978. Epub 23-Nov-2022. ISSN 2594-0651. https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2022.4.60388.
Mexico promotes the access of historically discriminated populations such as indigenous people to higher education, but it also disguises racism under the equalizing category of mestizo. Who are the indigenous people who manage to get into the universities despite inequalities, discrimination, and racism? How do these institutions help or hinder their educational and employment aspirations? It is concluded that given the structural inequalities and asymmetric conditions embedded into university spaces, the response of indigenous university students as an agency is essential to developing aspirations and opening opportunities for a desired future.
