The Venezuelan opposition has been defeated consecutively in legislative and presidential elections since 1998, when Hugo Chávez achieved the presidency of the Republic and promotes a set of reforms that change the institutional landscape of Venezuela. This paper aims to analyze the evolution of the Venezuelan opposition in the last fourteen years versus these changes, the election results achieved and the various strategies adopted to confront the government. Also this paper identifies some important variables at the time of evaluating the performance of the opposition and suggested that its proper functioning is an essential part of democracy.
