Resumen

BITENCOURT, Silvana Maria  y  ANDRADE, Cristiane Batista. Two Weights and Two Measures? Maternity and Academic Life of Doctoral Students at a Public University. Debate fem. [online]. 2022, vol.64, pp.32-55.  Epub 20-Mayo-2023. ISSN 2594-066X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cieg.2594066xe.2022.64.2353.

The article analyzes the relationship between academic life and motherhood in doctoral students in various areas of a public university. Ten indepth interviews were conducted. The results show that the understanding of motherhood among academic mothers involves developing a new use of time; guilt and responsibility regarding childcare; self-recrimination for failing to live up to the academic ideal imposed by the current academic context; lack of paternal involvement in care and women’s role overload. It is essential to design public policies to accommodate those who have chosen to work in the productive sphere.
