VIZCARRA-ALVARADO, Paloma et al. Evaluation of clinical care satisfaction in pediatric intensive care unit with permanent presence of parents. Rev. mex. pediatr. [online]. 2022, vol.89, n.2, pp.46-51.  Epub 26-Maio-2023. ISSN 0035-0052.  https://doi.org/10.35366/107497.

Introduction:

satisfaction with the medical care received in pediatric patients, defined as compliance with expectations, is a subjective concept determined by the perception of the patient and their families. Parents’ permanent presence of in the Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) allows involvement, adherence, and greater satisfaction.

Objective:

to measure the degree of parental satisfaction regarding the medical care offered to patients hospitalized in a PICU, which has a protocol for the permanent presence of parents.

Material and methods:

cross-sectional and prospective study. To measure satisfaction, the “Picker’s Pediatric Acute Care Questionnaire” questionnaire was used, which consists of 42 questions with multiple choice answers, which can have a score from 0 to 100 points. The questionnaire was applied to 50 parents, at the time of patients discharge from the PICU. The analysis was descriptive.

Results:

of the 50 patients, 52% were male and 26% were younger than one year-old. Median satisfaction was 91 points (min. 62, max. 99). Except for the “Information and communication” (80.8 [50-100]) and the “Accessibility and availability” (98.2 [50-100]) sections, medians of 100 points were obtained in the other questionnaire five sections.

Conclusions:

in this study, parents of pediatric patients in the PICU were highly satisfied with the care received by health personnel. Particularly in the relationship of parents with the health team, and in the caring of patients, but not in the aspects of information and communication.
