This article studies a series of criticisms that have been directed against the theory of natural law, originally proposed by Germain Grisez, which in turn was further elaborated by other legal philosophers such as John Finnis, Joseph Boyle, William May and Patrick Lee. The aims of the author are to show, in the first place, that contrary to the opinions of its critics, the theory of natural law proposed by Grisez does not exclude the assumption that the basic human good or moral norms are based on human nature or have a connection with it; and secondly, that Grisez and his followers are right when they assert that our knowledge of the basic human good and of moral norms does not need, nor can it be logically deduced, inferred or derived, from the facts of human nature.
