In this essay, the author proposes the need to conduct an in-depth analysis of the discursive complexity of the Christian Rhetoric as derived from the perspective obtained from rereading its argumentative strategies. These strategies may be found in the proposals and examples offered by the Franciscan friar, as exemplified by the characteristic preceptive oratory and engravings made especially for this work. Rolando Carrasco analyzes the importance of the Exempla with regard to their rhetorical function, arguing that their basis in daily experience imbues them with a substantiating argumentative value, as embodied in the legal tradition inherited from the Classic Greco Latin world. The reader may therefore corroborate that, not only does the work of friar Diego Valadés have enormous literary significance, but is also extremely valuable as an allegation of the theological and juridical order required at a specific historical juncture, when native Americans were incorporated into the Western world.
