DIAZ ALVAREZ, Ana Guadalupe. Footprints of a Chronogenesis: Proposed Method for Interpreting the Teotihuacan Murals Known as "Architectural Motifs". An. Inst. Investig. Estét [online]. 2008, vol.30, n.93, pp.05-32. ISSN 0185-1276. https://doi.org/10.22201/iie.18703062e.2008.93.2274.
This article analyses a sample consisting of four murals at Teotihuacan-early pieces characterized by their high degree of abstraction. Arthur Miller was the first to find a common discourse running through these pieces, which since then have entered the catalogues under the title of "architectural motifs". This article offers a new interpretation of the represented scenes, drawing on different interpretative tools which include iconographic analysis, study of the calendar and attention to certain ritual practices linked to myths of origin. The work seeks to identify the scenes represented in the murals: end-of-period ceremonies, ritual acts connected with the beginning of time and renewal of the calendar.
