In this article the author puts forward as an explanatory hypothesis of the 1968 student social movement its political modernizing capacity as a result of social change and the violence that this transformative pressure unleashed against it, on the part of the governing coalitions, since the beginning of the street demonstrations from July 26 until October 2, when the government led by President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz ordered the killing of students opposed to state institutions, at the Plaza de las Tres Culturas, in Tlatelolco, in Mexico City’s downtown.
