RAMIREZ MENDEZ, Jessica  e  ROVIRA MORGADO, Rossend. From San Francisco el Viejo to el Nuevo in Mexico City. Revised Proposal on the Earliest Traza Española (1524-1525). Estud. hist. novohisp [online]. 2021, n.64, pp.161-205.  Epub 06-Jun-2022. ISSN 2448-6922.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iih.24486922e.2021.64.76126.

The paper addresses how the location of the very first conventual site of the Franciscans in Mexico City (1524-1525) is an issue that is not exempt from high levels of inconclusiveness and controversy about the first cultural and social stages of the colonial capital. Critical revisionism on previous investigations and proposals for a place -traditionally focused on the area of the Cathedral and the current Plaza de la Constitución- is carried out through the analysis of unpublished archive information and some indigenous chronicles. The data obtained on the location of San Francisco el Viejo strongly lead to urban parcels related to the last convent of Santa Clara (Calle Tacuba 29, Cuauhtémoc district, Mexico City). More significantly, the proposal around the first Franciscan location aims to open the door to reconsider the way in which we have been thinking about urban organization in these first years after the Conquest.
