This article deals with a subject that has been relatively neglected by the historiography about women secondary education in Mexico during the 19th Century: it analyzes, from a comparative point of view, the ideas and approaches of one of the most important representatives of the Mexican liberalism and catholicism to this subject. Although both tendencies had a particular interest in women secondary education, their respective objectives and strategies were totally different.
