A trend has emerged on the poverty studies agenda that analyzes the relation between poverty and educational inequality. Available research data, including INEE reports for 2014, suggest that the Mexican education system is permeated by a dynamic that stratifies access to learning, which, it may be inferred, increases inequalities. From this perspective, the document presents new empirical evidence of how income-based social inequality (measured in the country's states by the Gini coefficient) is associated with education systems that are stratified socioeconomically, even when the effect of modes of schooling aimed at social disadvantages is taken into account (i.e. CONAFE and indigenous elementary schools). The available data indicate that in Mexico there are social reproduction mechanisms that effectively translate contextual inequalities into inequalities between schools, with the result that access to learning for some segments of the population is unequal.
