FRANCO NAVARRO, Francisco; CID DEL PRADO VERA, Ignacio  e  ROMERO TEJEDA, María de la Luz. Isolation and Parasitic Potential of Pochonia chlamydosporia Against Nacobbus aberrans on Bean. Rev. mex. fitopatol [online]. 2012, vol.30, n.2, pp.101-114. ISSN 2007-8080.

Naturally infested with Nacobbus aberrans soil samples were taken at Pozo de Gamboa municipality, Zacatecas state, Mexico, and native isolates of the nematophagous fungus Pochonia chlamydosporia var. chlamydosporia were obtained. Tests to evaluate their potential as a biological control agent against this nematode were done: first, their root colonization capacity was evaluated both from plants used in rotation schemes as well as of different bean varieties, and also their ability to parasitize N. aberrans eggs in vitro was tested. Additionally, tests were done to prove their effectiveness as a nematode biocontroller under greenhouse conditions. The native isolate colonized 100 % of the roots of the plants and the bean varieties tested; egg parasitism was 82 %. Greenhouse bean plants inoculated with two different doses of the native isolate (7,500 and 15,000 chlamydospores g-1 of soil) showed more foliage and root weight than the control plants and those treated with 48 % carbofuran (4 L ha-1). Root galling and nematode numbers inside them were lower after fungus application. This is the first report of P. chamydosporia in Zacatecas state and its use as a potential biological control agent for false root-knot nematode in beans.
