UZETA, Jorge. Agrarian Mediation in two Municipalities in Guanajuato: Atarjea and Xichu. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2011, vol.32, n.125, pp.53-86. ISSN 2448-7554.

This essay documents the political route followed by two agrarian mediators in the Sierra Gorda of Guanajuato. Their occupations allowed them to nuisance and reinforce certain elements of a model widely developed in Mexican anthropology: that of Caciques as cultural intermediaries and as regional constructors of state institutions in the aftermath of the Revolution. Among the activities of those intermediaries, what stands out is their close relationship to peasants who petitioned for land -the principal interest of this text- and with political groups that were fighting for control of the state. These two links allowed them to profoundly influence ejidal history in the Sierra, especially in the two municipalities mentioned in the title.

Palavras-chave : caciquismo; agrarianism; clienteles; patriarchy.
