TORRES RODRIGUEZ, Alicia. Hydraulic Infrastructure in Guadalajara to Supply Potable Water: The Case of Sustainability in the City's Filtering Galleries. Relac. Estud. hist. soc. [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.136, pp.317-357. ISSN 2448-7554.
This essay analyzes the construction of the hydraulic infrastructure installed to supply potable water to the city of Guadalajara and its continuity over time. It focuses on the first project that provided water collectively: the so-called filtering galleries that functioned on the basis of water from aquifers and other underground sources. It also describes the hydrologic region of Guadalajara, the importance of the social actors that participated in construction projects, and the technology utilized to facilitate conducing water to the city. It then follows the filtering galleries through time to assess their impact on extraction zones and sustainability as well as their permanence as sources of supplies for Guadalajara, while also examining the richness of the aquifers, which have been forgotten or ignored due to political and economic issues.
