In the late 19th and early 20th century, several groups of immigrants arrived in México, foremost among which were the Barcelonetes, the Spanish and the Lebanese. Some of them displayed considerable business acumen, enabling them to establish the basis of 20th century Mexico's commercial, industrial and financial development. This article studies some of the characteristics of the social government of the communities into which these immigrants were inserted and analyzes the way they may have reinforced their ability to créate firms.
