SAN MIGUEL, Pedro L.. Myths and History of the Peasant Epic: John Womack and the Mexican Revolution. Secuencia [online]. 2010, n.76, pp.133-156. ISSN 2395-8464.

This article contains a reflection on Zapata and the Mexican Revolution by US historian, John Womack, Jr. The analysis is based on the concept of myth-history, based on the premise that any great historical account possesses a mythical structure. The author therefore attempts to identify these features in Womack's text, particularly in his construction of the state of Morelos and Emiliano Zapata, as a mythical space and hero, respectively. At the same time, he argues that this type of construction reflected the intellectual and political trends prevalent in Latin American studies in the 1960s and 1970s.

Palavras-chave : Mexican Revolution; John Womack, Jr.; Emiliano Zapata; historiography; myth.
