SANCHEZ RUIZ, Gerardo G.. Epidemics, Sanitation Works and the Forerunners of Town Planning: Mexico City on the Way to the First Centenary. Secuencia [online]. 2010, n.78, pp.121-147. ISSN 2395-8464.
This article reviews Mexico City on its path towards the first Centenary, highlighting the efforts of a group of professionals, particularly doctors and engineers, who, from the late 19th century onwards, in a context outside town planning, as part of a dynamic of reflection and proposals, proposed a series of projects for the city such as drainage, potable water, landscape gardening, and widening and embellishing srreets, through which they sought to reduce the series of illnesses and epidemics that were affecting this space. Despite their limitations, since they were not enjoyed equally by the city's inhabitants, these projects constituted the basis of the modernity with which the capital began the 20th century, making these professionals the forerunners of town planning in Mexico.
