GONZALEZ GALEOTTI, Francisco Rodolfo. Vae Victis: The First Central American Exile in Mexico (1829-1840). Secuencia [online]. 2022, n.114, e2088.  Epub 07-Fev-2023. ISSN 2395-8464.  https://doi.org/10.18234/secuencia.v0i114.2088.

The period between 1829 and 1840 saw the first Central American exile in Mexico as a direct result of the end of the First Central American Federal War (1826-1829). This article presents an overview of that experience by exploring the geography of its political ties in Mexico, its economic activities, vicissitudes, and institutional insertion in Mexico. The event is striking because of its early occurrence in Latin American history and the large number of exiles, which was not surpassed until the 20th century. An appendix with all the names of the exiles registered in Mexico between 1829 and 1840 is included.

Palavras-chave : exile; roots; Central America; Mexico; elites.
