JIMENEZ-SANTANA, E et al. Fruit quality of tetraploid genotypes of husk tomato (Physalis ixocarpa Brot.). Universidad y ciencia [online]. 2012, vol.28, n.2, pp.153-161. ISSN 0186-2979.

This study was carried out to determine the effect of ploidy level on the fruit quality of the husk tomato. As genetic material, the tetraploids ANT2, ANT3 and ANT4 were used, and the Rendidora diploid was used as a control. Data were analysed with a random split plot design. The treatments (genotypes) were distributed in the field with five replicates, plastic mulch and drip irrigation, during the months of July to November 2008. The variables evaluated in the fruit were: polar diameter (DPF), equatorial diameter (DEF), firmness (FF), density (DF), weight (PF), vitamin C content (VC), total soluble solids (SST), acidity of the fruit (pH) and mesocarp thickness (GM). The variables DPF, DEF and PF presented highly significant differences (pp < 0.01) among treatments, with the diploid genotype highlighted in these variables. The variables FF and DF presented no statistical differences among treatments. The content of vitamin C in the tetraploids was statistically greater than that in the diploid. The tetraploid populations presented a high genetic variability, among genotypes in the fruit quality variables under study, indicating it is possible to start a process of selection in these populations.
