OTTONELLO, Rodrigo Oscar. Science and Art in Durkheim's Readings of Classical Political Philosophy (from Plato to Montesquieu). Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.87, pp.79-109. ISSN 2007-8358.
Taking into account sociology's break with the extensive tradition of political philosophy, recognized by both social science and political theory, this article proposes a reconstruction of the difference between science and art, as well as the ways of situating politics in that classification, according to five classical authors that Durkheim looks at to mark the differences that make his project unique: Plato, Aristotle, Hobbes, Rousseau, and Montesquieu. In contrast with some current literature, the aim here is to deepen our understanding of the social not as the field of politics, but as its limit.
