SOSME CAMPOS, Miguel Ángel e CASADOS GONZALEZ, Estela. Ethnic Groups and Empowerment: Elements for the Analysis of the Transformation of Female Identities in the Zongolica Mountains of Veracruz. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2016, vol.31, n.87, pp.143-173. ISSN 2007-8358.
This article brings together a discussion and a theoretical proposal for analyzing the empowerment of indigenous women. Based on the intersection of analytical categories like ethnic group and empowerment, the authors emphasize the need to understand the latter as a complex process, more than a state of emancipation, in which at the same time that there are advances, different steps backward persist and co-exist. To a great extent, these steps back are favored by deeply-rooted gender structures, which are a barrier to the struggles taken up by indigenous women.
