PEDRAZA RAMOS, Alejandro Karin. The Construction of the Indigenous Political Subject in the Struggle for the Right to Have Rights. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2020, vol.35, n.100, pp.171-204. Epub 09-Mar-2021. ISSN 2007-8358.
Concretizing a series of indigenous peoples’ rights required a process of bringing together demands and identities, but, above all, bringing together the struggle to establish the content and scope of the demands themselves. Social movement theory allows us to understand that the consciousness of their ethnic identity has contributed an organizational basis for indigenous mobilization, used to demand their “right to have rights.” The indigenous movement has included among its protest repertory the tool of human rights in the local, regional, and global spheres if that contributes to position and legitimize their demands. Thus, this article aims to reflect about the struggle of indigenous peoples for their “right to have rights”.
