SIERRA MARTINEZ, Andrés Emiliano. Neighborhood Assemblies as Emerging Systems of Interaction and Spaces for Political Participation in Urban Social-environmental Conflicts. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2020, vol.35, n.100, pp.205-237.  Epub 09-Mar-2021. ISSN 2007-8358.

The aim of this article is to analyze the emergence of systems of interaction and the reconfiguration of the forms of political participation as results of urban socio-environmental conflicts. Establishing a dialogue among the systemic perspective, pragmatism, and political sociology, the author proposes conceptual elements for the study of the consequences of this kind of conflict linked to the structures of a system of protest. Neighborhood organizations can be seen as emerging systems of interaction whose practices and communications produce ways of observing and mechanisms for political participation in autonomous spaces. Using qualitative methodology, he studies the case of the Coyoacán General Assembly of Neighborhoods, Towns, and Rocky Areas and its creation in the framework of a conflict over the environmental consequences of real estate development in southern Mexico City.
