MENKES BANCET, Catherine  e  SOSA-SANCHEZ, Itzel Adriana. Dying in times of Covid-19 in Mexico. The Effects of the pandemic on indigenous populations. Sociológica (Méx.) [online]. 2022, vol.37, n.106, pp.263-282.  Epub 01-Set-2023. ISSN 2007-8358.

Mexico has a significant proportion of indigenous population. Although this is a heterogeneous group, indigenous people are part of the poorest, most discriminated and disadvantaged populations in this country, and their living conditions are below national and regional averages. Using information from the Epidemiological Surveillance System for Viral Respiratory Diseases, we analyze the socio demographic and health factors associated with Covid-19 deaths; emphasizing the effects that this phenomenon has on the indigenous population. The logistic regression model identifies factors associated with structural inequalities among the most significant predictors associated with Covid-19 death risk in Mexico. Findings highlight the particular vulnera- bility that marginalized populations are subject to in the face of the Covid pandemic.
