FRACCHIA, Sebastián; ARANDA RICKERT, Adriana  e  TERRIZZANO, Esteban. Culture of a commercial strain of Pleurotus ostreatus on Simmondsia chinensis and Jatropha macrocarpa residues. Rev. Mex. Mic [online]. 2009, vol.29, pp.37-42. ISSN 0187-3180.

The feasibility of the cultivation of a Pleurotus ostreatus strain was evaluated on wastes of two plant species cultivated in north-west Argentina: Simmondsia chinensis and Jatropha macrocarpa. The mycelial growth of P. ostreatus was analysed on Petri dishes containing different proportions of both plant species wastes. The combination 4:1 of J. macrocarpa/S. chinensis resulted as the most effective on the vegetative growth of P. ostreatus. Subsequently it was carried out the experimental culture under controlled conditions of light, temperature and humidity. Six treatments were done with different combinations of wheat straw and the plant wastes. J. macrocarpa and S. chinensis combination resulted as the most effective, with a biological efficiency of 89.7% and a production rate of 1.74%. Both substrates are a feasible alternative for the commercial production of Pleurotus genus in regions where no cereals crops are cultivated, like in the Province of La Rioja, Argentina.
