This work shows how oxidative stress could be involved as an etiological agent in a large number of diseases. It is considered that in low concentration the reactive oxygen species (ROS) are important and necessary for a good cellular function and to maintain this state of equilibrium, the organism owns the endogenous antioxidants mechanisms, along with exogenous antioxidants molecules that contribute to maintain a low concentration of ROS. Excessive production of ROS or inhibition of the endogenous antioxidant routes lead the organism to the condition of oxidative stress, which put in risk cellular homeostasis and therefore, reduce the quality of life due to the risk of contracting a disease and which, in some circumstances, it could put life at risk.
