From a perspective centered on actor experiences, this paper analyzes time, the accumulation of academic merits, and space as conditions for the configuration of academic networks in the area of sociology in Mexico. Empirical data come from 18 PhD holders affiliated to the main sociology research and teaching establishments in the country. The results indicate that the conditions studied have effects on the ways in which sociologists conduct collaborative academic work throughout their professional careers.
